The Binational Race San Diego Tijuana offers a unique opportunity to traverse the 13.1mi route shared between San Diego and Tijuana.

The half marathon begins its route on Las Americas Premium Outlets, proceeding along Camino de la Plaza avenue until reaching Dairy Mart Rd. At kilometer 5, participants will enjoy the natural reserves of Tijuana River Valley Park. At kilometer 10, they will experience crossing the border through the San Ysidro – El Chaparral international checkpoint.

Join all participants running in a lane of Freeway 5 to enter Mexico through the world’s busiest border crossing.

Following this historic crossing, participants continue along the international route. This significant effort is rewarded with panoramic views of San Diego and a fast 5 km descent until reaching the finish line at Playas de Tijuana.

The Binational Race offers two different  distances:

Half Marathon:

The Binational Half Marathon starts at 6:50 AM.

This flagship event presents a unique opportunity to complete a 13.1-mile course that connects San Diego and Tijuana. The route begins at Las Américas Premium Outlets and continues through the protected landscapes of the Tijuana River Valley Park.

At the 10K mark, participants will cross the border via the San Ysidro – El Chaparral international checkpoint. For this section, runners must complete the first 10 kilometers within two hours, as this is the designated time window during which the border will remain open for the race. The thrill of running across the world’s busiest border is an unforgettable highlight of the event.

Once in Mexico, the course continues with a challenging climb that offers panoramic views of San Diego, followed by a 5K descent leading to the finish line at Playas de Tijuana.

 

10 km:

The 10 km route in Tijuana starts at 7:40

For participants opting to remain in Mexico, we extend an invitation to join the 10 km race commencing at the start of Avenida Internacional. Following the same route as the half marathon, runners finishing together at Playas de Tijuana.

Race Kit:

All runners, upon registering, are entitled to a Race Packet which includes a bib number, a chip, and a t-shirt. At the end of the race, everyone will earn a medal for this event.

 

Legacy

If you ran the 13.1m – Half Marathon last year and are coming back for the same distance in 2025, S.Pellegrino will be waiting for you at the finish line with the official S.Pellegrino Lounge t-shirt. Because you are already part of our story — you are Binational Race Legacy.

PACE MAKERS

We are excited to announce that, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Road Runners Sports and the Latinas Running Foundation, we will have pace markers to help you achieve your goals during the race.

Our pace markers will be available for the following times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, and 2:30. These experienced runners will be alongside you to offer support and keep the pace throughout the event, ensuring you can maintain the right rhythm to reach your goal.

TJ – SD TRANSPORTATION

The shuttle service is provided by SDTJ Passport.
SDTJ Passport is a Tijuana shuttle company specializing in passenger service between Tijuana and San Ysidro.

10k registrants coming from the USA side

For our 10K registrants coming from the USA side, we provide transportation from Las Américas Premium Outlets directly to the 10K start line.

Buses will pick you up at Las Américas Premium Outlets, cross you through immigration, and take you straight to the start line so you can focus on your run and enjoy the unique experience of the Binational Race.

Please keep in mind:

If you are participating in the 10K coming from the USA (whether using the shuttle or crossing on foot), you will go through immigration. You must present your American passport and fill out the MULTIPLE IMMIGRATION FORM (FMM)
If you are Mexican, you may present an official ID example: passport, INE.

Finish line to border

Shuttles facilitate the return from the finish line to the border on the US side.
This service is available for all participants, as well as their friends and family members. Note that both races finish at the same location.

All shuttle users must be ready to present the appropriate immigration documents, as is customary for crossing the border.

The shuttle service price is $25. Online purchases are available at $20.

Shuttle tickets will be provided at Packet pick-up.

On Race Day, you will be available to purchase shuttle tickets at the finish line.

The shuttle service hours will be running from 9am to 12pm

Once the shuttles drop passengers off at the border, you will need to go through customs. After completing customs, the exit will be on the PedEast.

Take the pedestrian bridge across the freeway to reach Las Americas Premium Outlets. It will be a 5-8 minute walk to the west.

KING AND QUEEN OF THE HILL

Use the first 8 flat miles of the Binational Race 13.1m to get ready for the most iconic challenge: a climb of more than 300 feet on the famous Enchilada Hill. It’s a 1.1-mile ascent with a 7% incline that will test your endurance.

Only half marathon runners take part in the King of the Hill challenge, where the 5 fastest men and 5 fastest women to conquer the climb will be crowned the Kings & Queens of the Hill.

New for 2025: This year you’ll find markers every 200 meters, proudly sponsored and branded by Mineral King Produce. As you power up the hill, you’ll know exactly how far you’ve made it—step by step, marker by marker.
